My Teaching Philosophy
I believe in child-centered, constructivist instruction that puts student learning outcomes front and center. In the context of the school library media program, this means that activating prior knowledge and facilitating an inquiry process are essential to integrating media and research into the school curriculum and supporting classroom instruction. The media center is the hub of the school, and it should be a place where students are comfortable to explore and take ownership over their learning. The media program is also an excellent place to infuse technology into the curriculum, and to push it out to the classroom. In short, I believe that the school library media program can prepare students to be 21st Century Learners, and that the media specialist is uniquely qualified to provide the necessary instruction and instructional support to get students (and teachers) there!
